Website Description: At Lil’ Dizzy’s, producing great fried chicken is a matter of historical pride. Founder Wayne Baquet, Sr learned the restaurant trade from his father Eddie Baquet, Sr namesake of the legendary 7th Ward restaurant Eddie’s. Wayne, Sr retired in November 2021. Lil’ Dizzy’s Cafe is the only Baquet-owned restaurant still going, and it is now owned and operated by Wayne, Jr and his wife Arkesha. They are making the Creole-Soul tradition proud.

Our Take: It doesn’t get more New Orleans than this lunch only spot in Tremé. Served in styrofoam containers, Lil Dizzy’s serves up soul, southern, and creole dishes to an eager lunch crowd. Smothered okra with fried chicken, stuffed peppers, po-boys, seafood platters are just a few things on the menu. Tourists with luggage and locals make this a busy spot. Get to-go if you can to avoid waiting for a table. For a glimpse of a signature dish recipe, see this clip from 4WWL TV.

As if this isn’t enough, Lil Dizzy’s gumbo came in second in a city wide poll sponsored by Nola.com. With over 500,000 votes cast, Dizzy’s was just edged out by Gabrielles and the voting was close – so how could you go wrong at either spot?
