New Orleans Regional Transit Authority
New Orleans RTA offers three modes of transport:
1)Streetcars –
There are four streetcar lines:
1)Route 49 (green line) runs from Union Station to the Riverfront – this line runs from the border of French Quarter, along the river, along Canal Street turning on Loyola where it ends at the Union Passenger Terminal (Amtrak).
2)Route 47 (purple line) runs from Harrah’s Casino on Canal Street, through the city and to Cemeteries Terminal
3)Route 48 (black line) runs from Harrah’s Casino along Canal Street, turning on Carrollton Ave and ending at the entrance to City Park
4)Route 12 (red line) runs along Canal Street where it turns on St. Charles St., passing through much of the city, finally turning on Carrollton Ave and terminating at Claiborne Ave.
2)Ferries –
There are two ferry lines but most riders will only be concerned with the Canal Street Ferry:
Canal Street Ferry – this ferry runs from the Canal Street Ferry Terminal (near the Audubon Aquarium) to the Algiers Ferry Terminal on the “West bank” of the river. Even though this point is largely northeast of the Canal Street Ferry Terminal, Algiers Point is considered the West Bank due to the Rivers curve at the base of the city.
3)Buses
Routes and times can be found here. Buses also run to and from the Central Business District to Louis Armstrong Airport. A schedule can be found here.
