Our Take: Part of the Louisiana State Museum and “sister” museum to the Cabildo, the Presbytère was designed and partially built in the late 1790’s. The building was used as a courthouse and for commercial purposes until its acquisition by the State in 1911. The building derives its name from the French word for “rectory” as the site was once the site of the Capuchin monastery. Just on the other side of Saint Louis Cathedral stands another location of the State Museums – the Cabildo. History buffs shouldn’t miss visiting both museums.
