Our Take: A stunning museum/memorial to the enslaved who toiled along the German Coast of Louisiana. The museum is a 50 minute drive from New Orleans and numerous tour operators afford access. Perhaps in no other way can the history and legacy of slavery be brought to today. The memory of the enslaved, who engaged in the hazardous task of sugar production, is still present at this site. If you do only one thing “outside” of the city, the Whitney should be your destination. Admission for adults is $32 ($15 for children), a self-guided tour is also available for $25 ($11 for children).
